BOARD OF ADVISORS
Thornton May is a futurist, educator, and author. His extensive experience researching and consulting on the role and behaviors of “C” level executives in creating value with information technology has won him an unquestioned place on the short list of serious thinkers on this topic. The editors at eWeek honored May, including him on their list of Top 100 Most Influential People in IT. The editors at Fast Company have labeled him ‘one of the top 50 brains in business.’
May specializes in creating action-based learning spaces for high performance organizations. He ran the multi-client research program at the Nolan Norton Institute, led the Management Lab at Cambridge Technology Partners, co-founded the Olin Innovation Lab, founded the CIO Institutes at UCLA and UC-Berkeley, and co-manages the CIO Solutions Gallery at Ohio State University.
May’s research has been acknowledged in such seminal business books as Seth Godin’s Permission Marketing; Michael Schrage’s Serious Play: How the World’s Best Companies Simulate to Innovate; Moshe Rubenstein’s The Minding Organization; Bill Jensen’s Simplicity; and Jeff Williams’ Renewable Advantage: Crafting Strategy Through Economic Time.
May’s book, The New Know: Innovation Powered by Analytics, analyzes what organizations know, how they come to know, and how they act upon what they know/don’t know.
May obtained his bachelor’s degree in Asian studies from Dartmouth College; his master’s degree in industrial administration from Carnegie-Mellon University; and developed his Japanese language competence at the Center for Japanese Studies at the University of Michigan and Keio University in Japan.
Financial Reporting Expert
In addition to being an advisor to Mirador, Mike serves as co-portfolio manager at Paritas Capital Management. He brings in-depth knowledge and expertise in portfolio analytics, performance reporting, operations, systems integration, and programming to Paritas to maximize the productivity of the team.
Pakula previously was the Head of Analytics at Park Avenue Securities where he worked in partnership with the firm’s business development team of more than 2,800 financial advisors to identify investment opportunities that would benefit their client’s portfolios. His objective was to ensure the business development team and financial advisors had the optimal technological infrastructure to effectively service their clients.
Earlier in his career, Pakula worked at Fieldpoint Private in developing a platform of portfolio management and financial planning applications for the firm. His responsibilities also included overseeing investment performance reporting, investment-related planning applications, securities operations, and client investment policy management.
Pakula holds a bachelor’s degree in corporate finance and accounting from Bentley University. Additionally, he attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo as a computer science major which has given him a strong skill set in various financial programming areas.
Seasoned Startup Organization Executive
Doug Klares founded Infinity Consulting Solutions (ICS) in 2001 with the mission to cultivate successful long-term relationships by matching the right people with the right organizations.
In 1996, Klares began his career in the staffing industry as the first salesperson for Advance Consultancy Group International. Five years later, Klares started his own staffing business, ICS.
Klares has overseen ICS’ growth into one of the nation’s largest and most successful staffing and recruiting agencies. He has grown ICS from its flagship headquarters in New York to include offices in Chicago, Minneapolis, Washington, D.C., Houston, Fort Lauderdale, Denver, and Dallas.
Under Klares’ leadership ICS has received numerous national staffing awards, including a place on the 2013 Best of Staffing™ Client List. ICS has also been consistently placed on the Inc. 500 | 5000 list for the past eight years for its continuous rate of growth.
Klares earned his bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Albany in economics with a minor in business. He is a supporter of the Northern Westchester Community Center.
Private Equity Executive
Bob Johnston joins the advisory board of Mirador with over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry.
During his career, Johnston has worked in institutional equity sales for technology-oriented firms, including Hambrecht & Quist, SoundView Technology, and Pacific Crest. He also covered long-only managers & hedge funds in the United States and Europe.
Johnston was a co-founder of Accrete Capital, a small-cap, U.S. equity hedge fund. He now is running the New York office for Herald Investment Management, which is part of a London-based fund management firm with over $1 billion in assets under management invested in global technology, media, and telecommunications (TMT). Additionally, Johnston is affiliated with one of the largest multi-family offices in the US with over $100B in AUM.
Prior to his career in financial services, Johnston worked for the Reagan and George H.W. Bush administrations.
Johnston serves on the boards of several non-profit organizations.
Brent Wood heads up the Kindle Digital Bookstore Platform for Amazon.
Before Amazon, Wood was Head of Consumer Web and Mobile Engineering at Bloomberg, where he was responsible for leading the engineering and research and development efforts for Bloomberg’s consumer media properties, which include Bloomberg.com, Businessweek.com, and Bloombergview.com.
With over 25 years at global brands like Disney and Amazon, Wood joins Mirador as a Technical Advisor. In his role, he will help guide the company’s software development of innovative technologies.
